Dr. Zanetti earned a Laurea degree from Politecnico di Milano in Italy and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin (UT). Before returning to UT as a faculty member, he held professional engineering positions from 2007 to 2017 at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory and NASA’s Johnson Space Center. In 2024–2025, he served as the Navigation Responsible Engineer for the human lunar landing system at Blue Origin.

Dr. Zanetti  is a Fellow of the American Astronautical Society, an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Dr. Zanetti has received numerous NASA honors, including the prestigious 2015 Software of the Year Award for his contributions to the Orion GN&C system.
